NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF CARL BURTON
June 2010 - Croasdaile is proud to introduce Carl Burton as its new Executive Chef. Chef Carl has been with Croasdaile for two years as the Sous Chef, and has supervised the culinary
operations since April 2010.
Chef Burton served for 10 years in the US Army as a Food Service Specialist before being honorably discharged in 1986. Since then Chef Carl has lead many kitchens and honed his culinary skills in private clubs, resorts, and restaurants throughout the U.S., including the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, Louisiana, and Texas.
In 2001, Chef Carl returned to his hometown of Durham, where he currently lives with his wife Sheila, and their two sons, Tevin and Timothy (both whom graduated from Riverside High in June), and two daughters, Shelita and Tronda.
ROB NELSON, PGA, JOINS CROASDAILE TEAM
February 2010 - The members and staff of Croasdaile Country Club in Durham, N.C., are proud to welcome Rob Nelson, PGA, as the club’s Head Golf Professional.
Nelson, a Class-A PGA Professional, comes to Durham from The Country Club of Bristol, Tenn., where he served as Head Golf Professional. While in Bristol, he also served as the Men's Head Golf Coach at King College. He will begin at Croasdaile Country Club on February 23, 2010.
In addition to his strong teaching, merchandising, and marketing background, Nelson will bring to Croasdaile a new energy for its youth golf program. In January 2010, he earned the Tennessee Junior Golf Leader of the Year Award, which recognizes the PGA golf professional who is a leader in junior golf program development and provides opportunities and experiences for juniors to learn and play golf. Nelson is now eligible for the national award which recognizes the top 41 programs in the nation.
“The addition of Rob to the Croasdaile family is yet another example of how the club is continuing to move in a direction that will position itself for the future as a leader in full service family entertainment that one would typically look for in a private golf and country club facility,” said Steve Cornelison, Croasdaile’s General Manager. “Rob will expand on the commitment to service and value that is expected at Croasdaile.”
Nelson succeeds long-time head golf professional Cole Huckabee, who retired on December 31, 2009 after more than 32 years overseeing the club’s golf operations and golf pro shop. Nelson will become only the sixth head golf professional at Croasdaile since its opening in 1966, when Wallace Martin was named as the club’s first pro.
To prepare for Nelson’s arrival, the Croasdaile Golf Shop is undergoing renovations during the month of February to better serve members and their guests. Along with aesthetic updates and service enhancements to the Golf Shop, new styles and brands of merchandise will be offered, including a wider range of men’s, women’s, and junior apparel.
Nelson’s wife, Gretchen, is also a Class-A PGA Professional and will also be involved as an independent teaching professional for golf lessons for Croasdaile members and their guests. The two met while both working at the Elk River Club in Banner Elk, N.C.
